On July 23rd I had
been watching “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” Which was the last film
Sean Connery starred in and it had a steam punk theme to it. It got me wondering about writing a novel with
a steam punk theme to it. So it’s this
particular novel. I intend to write.
I intend for the book idea
(maybe a trilogy, maybe more than that) to take place in 1872 Germany (it was called the Prussian
Empire back then) shortly after the Franco-Prussian War. A young Prussian Army Captain is just
relaxing with his troops and his Sergeant in the local tavern, when it is
suddenly attacked by an unknown company of solders equipped with strange
weapons.
Before the town can be
completely destroyed another group of soldiers with strange weapons show up,
only they are there to save the town from being completely destroyed. The young Captain and his Sergeant are given
permission to join this elite unit of men and women.
This elite unit is known as
the “Wulfkorps”. It’s comprised of
soldiers and scientists from the Prussian empire and its allies, created in the
spirit of cooperation to protect the best interests of their particular
countries and hopefully avoid war.
Characters
Hauptmann* Heinrich Schroeder.
Though he’s only 23 years
old, he was able to get himself bloodied in the skirmishes against the Polish
and later in the Franco-Prussian War.
He’s the oldest son of a minor nobleman and graduated with honors from
the military academy.
*German Army Rank for Captain
Feldwebel Hans “Iron Man”
Bruckner .
A battle-hardened army
veteran and close friend of Heinrich’s father.
Assigned to the young Schroeder since childhood to the military
academy and the present, true to his word and faithful in the duties to the young Schroeder, he
won’t hesitate in kicking ass and taking names
*German Army Rank: Company Sergeant-Major
*German Army Rank: Company Sergeant-Major
General der Infanterie* Johann Von Krieger
Commander-in-chief of the
WulfKorp, he was given commission of the Wulfkorp because of his outstanding
service to the Prussian military and his devotion to his men.
German Army Rank: General
German Army Rank: General
Baron Ludwig von Wulfcastle
the 7th
7th earl of the
Wulfcastle family and lead scientist to the Wulfkorp. For centuries his family had been conducting
science experiments for not only the Germanic peoples, but for the good of
humanity.
Helga Braun
Young, but beautiful
scientist whose knowledge on mathematics and the sciences have proven
invaluable to the Wulfkorp. She’s also a
talented fighter and prefers her own experimental crossbow than a firearm. Her past with Heinrich proves to complicate
matters.
Ulrich Heldorf
Massivily built, heavily
scarred and battle hardened behemoth.
The heavy weapons expert to the Wulfkorp, he often bullies the young
Schroeder on his lack of experience, but eventually takes a shine to him. He wants revenge against Steel Monger for killing his soliders during a campaign that was one more step towards him being a member of the Wulfkorp.
Kurt Holden
A shadowy guy who’s not too
fond on talking about his past, but his loyalty to Von Krieger and the Wulfkorp
members is beyond question. Expert
swordsmen, fighter and pistoler, he is the teams recon expert.
The Wulfkorps mechanic and
electrical expert, he also served in the artillery korp during the
Franco-Prussian war. He’s not much of a
fighter, but he’s not one to shrink away from a fight. His scientific genius mind comes in very
handy when it comes to researching new technologies and getting out of a
complicated manner.
Sheila Horton aka Lady
Deadeye
Freelance bounty huntress hired
by General Von Krieger. Her main job is
training the Wulfkorps snipers, but also to serve with the unit in combat. Quick with a pistol, sharp with a rifle,
fierce in a fist fight, this Texan cowgirl is tougher than a can of nails. Although she immediately takes a shine to the
young Schroeder, she fancies Bruckner more because he is the male equivalent of
her.
Many of these characters that
I have created were mostly from my own imagination, except for Ulrich, Deadeye,
Harbin , Kurt, Ludwig von Wulfcastle the 7th and Hans Bruckner.
My idea for Ulrich was based
off of Vulcan Raven from Metal Gear Solid, though he won’t be Native American,
but still massively built and carrying a heavy mini-gun looking weapon.
For Lady Deadeye my inspiration
is Claire Redfield from the “Resident Evil” series. She’s tomboyish and tough, yet she’s so very
attractive and good with a gun.
Kurt is based off of another
GI Joe: Snake Eyes. But unlike Snake
Eyes he will be more talkative, unless you bring up his past. His father was German Emissary and his mother
a Japanese native, were both killed by pro-shogun radicals and he was raised by
his Japanese uncle in the ways of the ninja.
I don’t have a character in
mind for who is based on von Wulfcastle the 7th, so I mainly just modeled
his character off of the British actor Vincent Regan, whose well known for his
role as Marc Antony in the TV-mini series “Empire” and his role of the Spartan
Captain in the 2007 movie “300”.
Like von Wulfcastle, I modeled Bruckner off of actor Ray Stevenson.
Like von Wulfcastle, I modeled Bruckner off of actor Ray Stevenson.
Villains
Lord Blackthorne: Leader of the terrorist group Blood Knights
and high ranking member of the secret society The Black Skulls, he will stop at
nothing to achieve the power that he believes to be his.
Plague Master: No-one knows
his real name, but it is said that he was a mad scientist that was killed in
his lab for performing biological and chemical experiments on living human
beings. In his death throes he injected
himself with a biological weapon that turned him into a living carrier of
disease and plague. He wears a reverse bio-suit
to prevent the unwarranted infections of others. He has left arm cannon to
shoot plague bombs at targets and a nozzle strapped to his right arm to spread
a plague cloud.
Ivan the Mad: Russian
national who’s a pyromaniac (Pyromancer possibility) and is obsessed with
burning down western civilization in the name of the Czar and Mother Russia,
despite the fact he’s a wanted criminal in Russia.
Fallion: Master of disguise
and serious cutthroat. Formerly of Her
Majesty’s espionage network, he betrayed his country for more deadly challenges
and of course for more money. His real
skin color is that of an Albino, but he often likes wearing tan colored make-up
to disguise his deformity.
A science experiment gone
wrong when a scientist tried to fuse man and steel. His real name is unknown, but he was a
convicted killer about to receive the hangman’s noose when he was given over to
science. His body is covered in steel;
his right hand carries a massive battle-axe with spikes all over his arms,
razor sharp claws on his wrists and a shoulder mounted cannon on his left
shoulder, he is the ultimate humanoid tank.
Hideo Sasaki aka Black Storm
Japanese native and member of
the Black Lotus Clan. His father was the
same assassin that killed Kurt’s parents, but because his father failed to kill
Kurt, he was forced to commit suicide.
Hideo wants to kill Kurt and avenge his father’s death.
Duchess of Death
Her real name is unknown, but
she was part of a fallen house that specialized in torture and assassination.
When the early German emperors dismissed the house members out of disgust for
such a clan, they split up and sold themselves off to the highest bidder. Duchess is as sadistic as she is beautiful
using lust and the desires of men against them to capture them.
The Black guard
The assassination experts of
the Black Skull Society
Skull Knights
The elite warriors of the
Black Skull Society and provides bodyguard work to the high ranking members of
the Black Skull Society.
Black Wings
Sky troops for then Blood Knights.
Blood Knights
Household troops of Lord
Blackthorn, recruits the most vile of men and woman to serve the dark purposes
of Lord Blackthorn and the Black Skull Society.
I plan to probably add more
characters, but most of them will be there to fill in and plus some of them
will be historically known, so I won’t mention them.
The character Lord Blackthorn
was inspired by the villain Lord Blackwood from the 2009 movie “Sherlock
Holmes.” Except unlike the villain from
the movie who uses slight of hand, science and fear to accomplish his goals
while disguising them as black magic, my character will be using not only science,
but actual black magic.
